2024 Honda Pilot in Corner Brook, NL

The Pilot is a mid-size, three-row SUV that is very popular with families. There’s ample room inside for everyone, as well as room for luggage. These cars are fun to drive, easy to park and swallow everything thrown at them, making them ideal for work to weekend use.

Notable Changes From the Previous Year

The fourth generation Pilot came out last year, so there are no notable changes for 2024.

Trims

The pilot is offered in five trims for 2024. At the bottom end of the list is the Sport, with a starting price of $53,795*. The middle of the list is occupied by the EX-L at $57,595* and the Trailsport at $60,895*. The premium trims are the Touring at $64,495* and the Black Edition at $65,995*.

Infotainment and Technology Features

The Sport has a 7.0-inch touchscreen, while the other trims all have a 9.0-inch touchscreen running in-car entertainment. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard but wired for the Sport and wireless for all other trims. Honda’s standard audio system is installed with seven speakers for the Sport and nine speakers for the EX-L and Trailsport.

Exterior Design

The Pilot may look a little like a truck from the front, but its design is ideal for hauling people and cargo. The rugged, muscular front is offset by a wide grille that features a chrome or black bar across the top, depending on the trim. The LED lights are bright and snuggle alongside the grille in the front, with daytime running lights, and are sleekly integrated into the rear.

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

The Pilot is aimed at families, so it’s no surprise that the cabin has been designed around family use. All trims can seat eight people using all three rows of seats, but the EX-L can be ordered with second-row captain’s chairs, which reduces that seating capacity to seven. In all trims, except the Trailsport, the rear seats fold in a 40/20/40 formation giving great space for cargo, when needed. With the second and third rows of seats in use, the cargo space is 635 litres, but when they’re folded flat, this increases to 3,219 litres.

Performance Features (Engine Type, Horsepower, Torque)

There’s only one powertrain on offer for the Pilot. This is a gas-powered 3.5-litre V6 24-valve DOHC with Dual Variable Timing Control motor making 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. This motor is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with Shift-by-Wire technology and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters driving all the wheels. All trims have drive mode assistance. The Sport has Sport, Normal, Econ, Snow and Tow drive modes. The other trims also get Trail and Sand modes.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

All Hondas come with a comprehensive set of active and passive safety measures and driver assistance features. The driver’s assistance features are contained within the Honda Sensing package and include things such as lane and road departure warnings, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, forward collision alerts, and rear blind spot monitoring.

In 2023, the Honda Pilot was given the 2023 Top Safety Pick+ rating by the IIHS. The Pilot’s overall rating was enhanced by top ratings in terms of crash avoidance and mitigation, which included day and night avoidance, and vehicle-to-pedestrian avoidance and headlight performance.
